Sorare Legends: Club Icons Join Platform

In a move that sounds like something from Fifa Ultimate Team, Sorare have introduced Legends to their platform. If you aren’t sure on my Fifa reference, FUT is a platform where players work to build the best team they can, aiming to dominate the online world of Fifa.

I’m quite excited for these legend cards to enter the platform, but I’m even more excited to see which players do enter the platform. The only thing is, Sorare haven’t stated which legends have joined yet, which is keeping players on the edges of their seats.

I will update this post below once all legends are announced, so be sure to keep an eye on the ‘Who are the Sorare Legends’ part below. I’ll also be doing my part to guess who the legends might be!

Which Sorare Legends have Cards on the Platform?

Iker Casillas

We are treated to multiple Iker Casillas Legend Cards, one from Real Madrid, and the other, Porto. They will both work in different ways, with Casillas taking the scores of a Real Madrid goalkeeper, with Porto version taking the Porto goalkeeper scores. I explain this in-depth near the bottom of this one.

There aren’t many goalkeepers more deserving of the legend status, with only Gianluigi Buffon coming to mind. Maybe in the future we may see Peter Schmeichel?

San Iker, as he was often known as, is referred to as the greatest goalkeeper of all time. He was a loyal employee for Real Madrid, and he even works there now as an advisor.

In 879 appearances throughout, Casillas kept 338 clean sheets. During an impeccable career, he received just 2 red cards. Once was against Espanyol, which impressively came in the 2nd minute.

My Fifa Inspired Sorare Legend Player Picks

It’s worth adding that I guessed these Legends, before Sorare announced them all. I have added the above area, just for a quicker reference for readers who want to understand who the Legends are. Here is my take on it (In Classic XI format):

• Goalkeeper – Gianluigi Buffon
• Left Back – Roberto Carlos
• Centre Back – Carles Puyol
• Centre Back – Javier Zanetti
• Right Back – Cafu
• Left Midfielder – Pascal Nedved
• Centre Midfielder – Zinedine Zidane
• Centre Midfielder – Steven Gerrard / Frank Lampard
• Right Midfielder – David Beckham
• Centre Forward – Ronaldo
• Centre Forward – Thierry Henry

I’ve picked a wide range of players here, but set my sights on the French roots that Sorare possesses. I’m wondering if this will help them to acquire the French legends, plus I can see the team having more passion for their National stars.

I’ve picked a few wildcards such as Gerrard or Lampard. Personally, I think Stevie is more of a legend, but he’s in demand with Rangers and Frank hasn’t got a job at present so might be more obtainable! I’ve also added Zidane, who should be obtainable with the new La Liga deal, plus he’s already on the platform (as is Buffon and Beckham).

How can Sorare Legend Cards be used?

Sorare Legends won’t just be there to make your gallery look pretty. They have utility, much like anything else on Sorare.

Once a month, as part of a ‘Special Weekly‘ tournament, your legend cards will have a special utility, like never seen before on Sorare. 

Before I get into this, I’ll start by stating the obvious. These legends are wearing a kit from some point during their career. Why?

As part of the Special Weekly, your legend card will receive the same score of the highest scoring player that plays for your legends club. Note, the player has to be in the same position for the score to count. Let’s use an example below to show you how this works.

Let’s say you own Marco Van Basten, the clinical finisher for AC Milan. If you enter Van Basten for a special weekly and the highest scoring Forward for AC Milan is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Van Basten will take the score of Zlatan.

It’s a little bit of a cheat code in that it ‘steals’ the best score for that team, but you still need some luck in terms of getting the forward to perform well!

Note, if Sandro Tonali outscores Zlatan, you would still only earn the points from Ibrahimovic’s total. You don’t earn the Teams best score, but the matching position best score.

This makes the Legend cards very interesting. For example, although we currently have Marco in his AC Milan kit, there’s no stopping Sorare from deploying his Ajax kit version, which would then work in the same way, but for Ajax!

We’ve already seen this for International team variants, with the Michel Platini card deployed recently.

This International variant has recently been added to the platform, which will help your Midfielder score during International Game Weeks.

Over-Powered Sorare Legends?

If you’re worried about Sorare legends taking over from your typical players, I’m here to calm your nerves. Sorare have confirmed that Legends can not be entered in the traditional tournaments that have been the life-blood of the platform since day one. 

They have however added that there will be extra utility for these, in game modes that haven’t been confirmed or announced yet.
